Jonathan Jones, better known by his stage name JJ LOVES SOME GRU, is a 15-year-old YouTuber, rapper, and producer from the Flex Entertainment label. On June 9, 2023, JJ left the Flex Entertainment Discord server and the label as well due to "not being interesting" in the product anymore.
Music career[edit | edit source]
JJ LOVES SOME GRU made his first song on the Scratch website named, "Lit" on July 25th, 2017. The image throughout the entire video is the Scratch cat on a stage with a badly drawn microphone wearing badly drawn glasses on him. A little while after the song was published on Scratch, he replied to the video, "Oh no pls dont watch this anymore... its cringe." In August 26, 2017, he made a new song called Roast Yourself Challenge in SoundCloud, Newgrounds, and YouTube (The YouTube one was deleted).
His first album was called, "Extreme" and back then he didn't know how to make playlists an album in SoundCloud, so he just made it a playlist. The album has 4 songs. The songs were Insane, Ankles Cracked, DOPEST GANG!!!!!, and Twist It and Pull It. In 2019, Yung Vanilla Cucumber Broccoli archived the songs and posted them on YouTube. A year ago, he DM'ed Submarine Man in SoundCloud asking if he wants to join his label. He didn't respond until 1 month after he made the song, "I Need the Smeet." It was originally called, "this is for everybody who listens to submarine man." Submarine Man noticed it and said it was ok to join the label.
On May 20th, 2019, he released his first Flex Entertainment album called. "Me and the Flat Globe." He would release more albums after called "Atari 2600 Gang" and "Slap Ya Mama."
One track from "Atari 2600 Gang" called "Yah Yeet" became popular on TiKTok. It peaked at No. 4 on the Flex Entertainment Hot 100.
He also released various songs on Newgrounds as "Pharinfarin", such as "this is for everybody who listens to submarine man"
Critical reception[edit | edit source]
He has been criticized for rapping about fighting, money, and a foot fetish. His song "Ran Out of Gucci" appeared on Hip Hop HQ's Top 100 Worst Rap Songs of 2019 list at No. 27.
