Lil Joof
Jewfree Dickinson (born: 2003), also known by his stage name Lil Joof was an artist signed to Flex Entertainment. He was known for his Playboi Carti-esque vocals and rapping about anime related topics.
He tragically died on July 10, 2021 at the age of 17 after an overdose of blean at a party.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Born on July 23, 2003, Jewfree Dickinson was a respectful child and he often listened to his teachers, parents, and grown-ups around him. He would always socialize with his friends. However, that changed when he discovered anime at age 12. Ever since then, he stopped socializing and became a loner. He refused to invite friends over to his house, attend school events, etc. At age 15, Jewfree saw how messy the planet Earth was. So he decided to leave Earth for another planet called Planet ZEPETO (now renamed as "JoofWorld"). He was born with natural brown hair, but he wanted to change his look. So he bleached his hair and dyed it pink. Another reason for moving was due to his hatred of 3D real life women. At age 16, Jewfree dropped out of high school during his junior year to fully focus on making music.
Musical Career[edit | edit source]
2019: Flex Entertainment[edit | edit source]
Alongside Jewfree starting a new life in Planet ZEPETO, He was becoming interested in music. He was influenced by Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Pierre Bourne, Young Thug, Future & David Shawty. He started out by posting a remix of a Victoria Monet and Ariana Grande song called "Monopoly". on June 10, 2019, he was signed to Flex Entertainment. He discovered the label through Tommy Craze's video of the Top 100 Worst Rap Songs of 2018 when Submarine Man and Lil Mosquito Disease appeared a few times on the list. This inspired Jewfree to make music alongside his influences.
2019-2020: The Weeb Life of Jewfree-chan and Joof SZN[edit | edit source]
He released his debut single "A LOVE LETTER TO RAPHTALIA" on September 13, 2019 on SoundCloud, coming to Spotify and Apple Music 4 months after. He continued to put out more songs like "NO NUT NOVEMBER IS FOR LOSERS" and "WAIFU FOR LAIFU", which led up to his debut album "THE WEEB LIFE OF JEWFREE-CHAN" released on February 21, 2020. "A LOVE LETTER TO RAPHTALIA" and "WAIFU FOR LAIFU" were the only singles from the album. The album had mixed to positive reviews from critics. It was criticized for the lyrical content and vocals, but praised for the production.
He released his first extended-play "JOOF SZN" on July 31, 2020. He posted a trailer 4 days before it's release, the tracklist being revealed the next day. The EP had negative reviews from critics, criticizing the use of the baby voice and the production being uninteresting and boring.
2020-2021: Isekai'd Into The Rap Game, Whole Lotta Pink and Death[edit | edit source]
Jewfree went on hiatus starting August 10, 2020, after the release of Joof SZN EP. On November 13. 2020, Jewfree released "Run It Up!" as the lead single for his second album titled "Isekai'd Into The Rap Game", ending his 3 month hiatus. Not much was known about the album other than the title and some of it's features. The album was released on March 21, 2021 without any prior announcement nor promotion. on June 12, 2021, Jewfree dropped his second and final extended-play "Whole Lotta Pink", also without any prior announcement nor promotion. He continued the surprise release strategy from Isekai'd Into The Rap Game. As of July 2021, Jewfree was on hiatus from music and focusing on helping around his hometown, JoofWorld. Unfortunately, Jewfree passed away on July 10, 2021 due to a blean (bleach+lean) overdose when he was at a house party. His cousin, Bil Doof made an official statement.
Critical Reception[edit | edit source]
Joof's music has received mixed to positive reviews from critics. He's been criticized for his Playboi Carti impersonation and unintelligible lyrics. However, he is praised for his production. Beetlebat gave his debut album a 6/10, calling it Flex Entertainment's very own "Die Lit." His EPs "Joof SZN" and "Whole Lotta Pink" weren't received nearly as well however. In recent months however, public perception on Joof SZN has been more positive as many say it has grown on them, including Flex owner Lil Mosquito Disease.
